Since 2017, the manufacture of HQL lamps has been banned in the EU. Existing stock may be used up, new units may no longer be deployed. Hundreds of thousands of luminaires in German schools, hospitals, administrative buildings and underground car parks — fully functional in the housing, but technically obsolete inside.
The usual answer: full replacement. New luminaires, new mounts, new wiring, construction waste, supply chain, lead time. Acceptable for a stairwell. For a heritage-protected façade, an operating hospital or a 30-year-old office building with 1,200 existing luminaires — economically and ecologically nonsensical.
That is the trigger for REVIVE: Save the body, swap the technology, re-declare conformity.
REVIVE is not kit DIY. It is a complete renovation process with our own measurement, custom 3D manufacturing and manufacturer-side responsibility for conformity — carried by Akzentlicht.

For every existing luminaire we engineer a precisely fitted renovation kit — LED module, driver, fixing, connection. Printed on our farm of 66+ units. Days, not weeks.
Akzentlicht becomes the manufacturer of the renovated unit and assumes full responsibility for conformity — ProdSG, NLF, EMVG, ElektroG. New CE Declaration, new documentation, new warranty.
Two standardised product lines cover the most common retrofit scenarios. Where standard does not fit, we build custom — all from our own 3D-printing production in Düsseldorf.

Aluminium body, high-performance PCB with tightly-spaced glare-free LED2835 (up to 153 lm/W system efficiency) and opal diffuser. In lengths to fit all common fluorescent tubes — W 26 mm × H 21 mm.

PCBs in the widest variety of form factors and sizes, combined with a 3D-printed base engineered individually for each existing luminaire. Helvar driver, optionally with sensor systems and emergency lighting function.

The European Commission’s “Blue Guide on the implementation of EU product rules” defines when a product is considered “newly placed on the market” after modification — and thus requires a new Declaration of Conformity.
A luminaire whose lighting technology is fully replaced (LED module, driver, light curve, connection) is, in the sense of the Blue Guide, a new product. The housing remains — the conformity obligation begins anew.
Whoever carries out the substantial modification becomes the manufacturer in the sense of the applicable directives (Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, Ecodesign, RoHS). With REVIVE that is Akzentlicht — with full responsibility for conformity and liability.
New CE marking, new type plate, new Declaration of Conformity, new technical documentation. The operator receives a fully equivalent new luminaire — on paper indistinguishable from a factory-new unit.

REVIVE is not the right answer for every luminaire. Here are the rules of thumb, and the clear limits.
A REVIVE renovation typically costs 35–55% less than a full replacement — at comparable or better lighting performance. Plus funding eligibility under BAFA Module 4 (Lighting renovation).
On top of that comes the energy saving: a typical HQL luminaire draws 70 W, the renovated LED version 20 W. Over 10 years and 4,000 operating hours/year that is 2,000 kWh per luminaire, or a good 600 € at current industrial electricity prices.
